Your oral health is more important than you might first realise. The mouth and face reflect signs and symptoms of diseases that affect the whole of the body. Oral health is integral to the well being of the person throughout life. The mouth may be the first site of signs of diseases for example occasionally Apthous ulcers and Crohns disease or Ulcerative Colitis. Cracks in the corners of the mouth might be a sign of anaemia. Various drugs such as Diuretics may affect the flow of saliva thus affecting the cleaning of the mouth and other functions such as defence and taste. The mouth is the entry route of various bacteria/ viruses etc and a compromised mouth is an easy route for infections to invade.
Teeth are required to chew foods thoroughly and not having enough teeth predisposes people to eat softer, more processed foods richer in Carbohydrates and fats. This can then affect their weight and risks for cardio vascular health.
At the dental Spa we recognise this and have in place General Dentists that are trained to promote oral health and well being. Most importantly preventative measures can be taken such as treating cavities and gum disease early.
I hold a clinic twice a month. I have a special interest in Oral cancer its early prevention or early detection and treatment. As a maxillofacial surgeon I am trained in all aspects of Oral surgery including removal of wisdom teeth, teeth replacements with Implants, salivary gland diseases and facial pain.
We also have Mr Dixon with a specialist interest in implants and facial pain. Facial pain can be quite debilitating and a usual cause can be teeth, their supporting structures or the jaw joints. He has an interest in the way the teeth meet and cause jaw joint pain.
Mr Chadwick is the Orthodontist and apart from straight teeth, orthodontists are able to move teeth into the ideal position and improve oral health as well as improve cosmetics, health of gums/teeth and speech.
