Every one of us will experience stress at one time or another in our lives. There are varies reasons, relating to our working or personal lives, and each one of us will cope with it differently. Some people cope better with high levels of stress, often thriving from it, finding it motivating. Others may not cope. Problems occur when people think they are unable to cope with the levels of stress they face. This can then have an impact on both their mental and physical health.
What is stress?
Stress is the body’s natural coping mechanism. It is caused by the body’s natural reaction to defend itself, it allows our body to react to an emergency. However, when we are prepared to face an emergency and one does not present itself, all that energy has nowhere to go, we become angry, depressed, upset, distrusting.
If we live with this feeling for too long, it can have a detrimental effect on our mental and physical health. We develop headaches, insomnia and high blood pressure. We lose the will to complete tasks and have no energy for the everyday things. We become physically, psychologically and emotionally drained!
Causes
Because each person deals with stress differently, it is extremely hard to identify an actual cause. Stress is often created by what we think might happen instead of what will actually happen. There are a number of common causes, which include:
- Big change in your personal/professional life (including moving house, divorce and changing jobs)
- Working in a high pressure environment
- Constantly worrying
- Feeling like you have no control over a situation
- Having a huge amount of responsibility
- Over thinking situations
Hypnotherapy for stress
Through a course of hypnotherapy sessions, I will be able to help you address your stress and anxiety levels. Together, we will identify the cause (or causes) or your stress. Once you have discovered the root of your problem, you will agree on upon a goal, which will include how you would like to feel and what you would like to do in your life without stress holding you back. This goal will be broken down into manageable smaller goals. I will then work with you to help you achieve your goals, using a variety of different techniques, including hypnosis, NLP (Neuro-linguistic Programming) and Mindfulness.
